Ever since I was a kid. I have enjoyed reptiles and any other creatures I could find. I remember being about 5, and my uncle took me to a pet store. A employee opened the top of a tank which held several small snakes, and they all started coming up over the sides. Several people all took one to hold, including me. I was instantly fascinated by the creature I held in my hands. And the rest, as they say, is history on that.
And now I enjoy teaching my nieces and nephews at similar ages not to fear these creatures out of hand. But to respect and keep your distance from the dangerous ones, and happily interact with the ones that are harmless.
I have lived in Arizona for most of my life, around 30 years now. And I spent many days in my youth out in the deserts, mountains, and other biomes on scouting and camping trips growing up. I was always the one flipping over rocks, looking for anything I could find, scorpions, spiders, lizards, snakes, and anything in between, I wanted to see it all. While my specialization and fascination is mostly in reptiles, I tend to love animals in general, and always have. Besides my three snakes, I also own a dog named Roscoe whos been a wonderful buddy to have around, especially working from home for several years now.
Perhaps because I sometimes felt misunderstood, or didn't fit in growing up with normal kids as much, I felt some affinity with the creatures people also tend to reject out of hand. Often, reptiles are avoided, hurt, or worse by those who are either scared of them or think that a harmless animal is somehow dangerous to them. My hope with this site, and the business it is setting up, is less about making money, and more about offering people a chance to become a little knowledgeable on these animals. Often a little bit of education can go a long way towards someone not fearing a snake or other animal nearly as much. I hope that I can do that for you if that is what you hope to get out of having me present for you. Giving you a safe and relaxing environment to interact with a few of the tamest ones you could hope to first interact with.
